Portable Fire Pumps

Fire Suppression

Portable fire pumps are compact, engine-driven or electric centrifugal pumps designed for use with kei fire truck water tanks and drafting operations. Drafting pumps allow independent water supply from static sources such as ponds, rivers, and cisterns.

Common Manufacturers

TKTK Identify more manufacturers and link manuals Japanese manufacturers produce portable pumps widely used with kei fire apparatus:

  • Tohatsu (東発) — TKTK the VC82ASE and similar models are standard issue for many fire brigades.
  • Shibaura (株式会社 IHI シバウラ) - FT-500A fire pump reaches up to 1400 L/min @ 0.5 MPa, 850 L/min @ 1.0 MPa

Use Case Recommended Flow Notes
Initial attack from tank 100–200 L/min Match to tank capacity
Relay pumping 200–400 L/min Consider drafting lift
Wildland interface 100–150 L/min Prioritize portability

Maintenance Notes

Engine-driven portable pumps require regular carburetor cleaning, impeller inspection, and mechanical seal replacement. Pump dry-running, even briefly, can damage seals — always prime before starting. Store with fresh fuel or drained carburetors to prevent gum deposits.
